HEYO FAM.
It's been nothing but a fiesta up here in Los Banos. It was my dearest compañera's bday. And about half of our ward's too. Which means... lots of presents! AND we had a zone meeting which means... packages! The point is there has been lots of opening and unwrapping going on in Los Banos.
Lots of the gifts we have opening this week are spiritual gifts from our Heavenly Father and they are definitely my favorites!
A really important gift that I have noticed so far is the gift of inspiration. The Holy Ghost continues to reveal to Hermana Foutz and I the needs of the people we are teaching. Right now we are teaching a young man named Francisco. He only speaks Spanish and Hermana Foutz and I don't speak super great Spanish. (We are learning though!) We decided we were going to teach him about the Doctrine of Christ rather then the Plan of Salvation since it is SO MUCH easier. Spanish wise anyways. But the spirit kept nudging us towards the Plan of Salvation so we changed the lesson plan. The lesson ended up going super well and afterwards his grandma spoke to us and said that earlier that morning Francisco had had many questions about life after death. She said she felt and hoped that that was what we would share with him in our lesson. Just a friendly reminder for us that this is the Lord's work and we are just His tools.
Another gift he has given us that I am SO grateful for is the gift of tongues. Something I have come to learn about some of God's gifts for us is that some are WELL wrapped. They just have lots of layers and tape and so they take a bit to open up. This is especially evident with me and Spanish. I am continually getting better but sometimes it is just mess. For example this week we went to a fellowship activity. Three days a week they play basketball in the gym. I was talking to one of our investigators named Jose. I pretty much had no idea what he was saying to me and realized he was asking me about a question. He was motioning toward a pile of things and asking whose they were. I told him though I thought they were Hermana Foutz's. I realized quickly that there must have been some miscommunication with how utterly shocked he was. With the help of our dear bilingual friend Oliver we realized he was actually talking about a BABY. Whoops. Oliver helped me clear that up. Spanish can be rough. But one night later I was able to testify of my love of the Savior in Spanish. So I still see the gift playing a part in my life everyday. But like everything else in this gospel, it comes little by little.
He is also blessing us with placing READY and faithful people in our path. We met a women named Mari this week and she is wonderful. She is so in tune with the spirit. She has faith in everything we tell her and is so ready to receive this message.
And He has also given me SO much charity. SO much. I love the people here with my whole soul. I have met people from all over North and South America. People from all demographics, races, and nationalities. I have seen sides of poverty and difficulties I have never seen before. And I have been filled with a love I have never felt before. The Savior has filled me with his love and I am so grateful for it. None of this is possible without Him. I love Him. And am beyond humbled to have the chance put His name over my heart every morning.
See y'all in a hot second.
Con amor,
