For the past few months I've been practicing a few magic tricks that my dad taught be before I left. And this week I felt ready to actually do it in front of people instead of in front of a mirror. We were visiting an inactive family in the ward who have children from the ages of 6-27. I decided the six year old would be the most impressed so I did the classic, 'quarter behind the ear' for the little girl, Millie. She was unimpressed. She just took the quarter and shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Which was disappointing. But when I looked to my left Millie's two older brothers Ricardo (27) and Miguel (25) were shook. They wanted me to keep doing it so they could figure it out. It was real funny and as I have thought about it I realized I've had a similar experience tracting. .
Last week Hermana Foutz and I changed all our plans to act on a prompting we had received to knock a street. We met this woman named Rosa who seemed WAY interested and we were really excited for her. We were so sure she was the reason we knocked that street. But Rosa decided to join all the other people who dropped of the face of the earth. We just could not get a hold of her. We were pretty disappointing. But as we left her house after our last contact attempt we ran into her neighbor Myra. We had met her before but she didn't act very interested and we assumed she wasn't ready. Let me tell ya. Myra is so ready. She's had a hard life but she just loves everything we teach her. She has embraced the Savior and his gospel so much already.
So sometimes there will be times when we all think we've got it all figured out. We think we know who wants the gospel. We know whose ready. Who needs it. Sometimes we think we know what's right for us. What we are ready for. What we need. (Or maybe we are so sure we know what changes are happening at this conference. 😉) But then we are wrong. And it's disappointing. But GOOD NEWS. Heavenly Father's gotta plan. And it's roughly one billion times better then ours. Elder Rendlund talked about this in conference. He explained that the answer is sometimes "not right now". Sometimes it is "no". But it is ALWAYS because he has something better in mind. I am beyond grateful my life is in his hands. He's behind this work and I am forever grateful for it.
See y'all in a hot second.
Con amor,
Hermana Nygren
